My love for classic cars stems from three childhood memories…first, my late father performed a ‘magic trick‘ once a month in which he invited me to give him one of my toy cars that I’d finished playing with, and then, rummaging through his wardrobe, he would ‘magically’ transform it into another car! Usually, this was a car that I’d given to him a few months earlier & had somehow long forgotten about. It was always a surprise and a delight. My second childhood memory is of my uncle’s rally cars…in Kenya, everyone’s uncle was an amature rally car driver. My uncle was actually very good and had accumulated over 50 trophies from his escapades. I was very proud of his achievements & my love for rallying & rally cars grew. The third is specifically related to Mercedes cars…my late father was a Mercedes man through and through….he usually had the latest top S-Class model in which our family visited friends, went to restaurants and the cinema. My sister and I always wanting to stand straddling the drive shaft tunnel to get a good view. He was a firm believer in buying quality…and it was the Mercedes brand that achieved this for him. Anyway…..these were the building blocks which have driven me to accumulate a classic car collection for myself….I love the variety and have been fortunate enough to have owned & enjoyed over 50 amazing cars to date…I endeavour to continue this pattern of swapping a car that I’ve finished ‘playing’ with for the next exotic one. In terms of Mercedes cars, I continue enjoy the delights of a 280se 3.5 coupe and a 600 Grosser. Being a Londoner, I’m always looking for opportunities to enjoy the cars & to meet fellow enthusiasts locally. I attend many such events throughout the year. So it is with the greatest privilege and pleasure that I have been asked to assist with this in the Club’s London Region. More specifically, we will organise monthly meetings for club members and enthusiasts at The Ace Cafe, London throughout this summer.
